On June 1 2017, the 3rd China-Latin American and the Caribbean Countries' Infrastructure Cooperation Forum was held in Macao. Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy China International Trade Representative Yu Jianhua attended and addressed the opening ceremony.
Yu said that Latin America is the natural extension of the 21st Maritime Silk Road. China is willing to work with Latin America to insist on the silk road of peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning, mutual benefit and win-win result in the China-Latin America infrastructure cooperation field, and to jointly promote the cooperation and prosperous development of infrastructure of both sides. We always believe and expect that practical cooperation in the infrastructure field can be constantly promoted through the convening of China-Lain America infrastructure cooperation forum. Efforts will be made to enable the cooperation in this field between the two sides to be a vivid reflection and important driving force of China-Latin America destiny community, to enable the cooperation in this field to cross over the vast Pacific Ocean and to become a friendly and cooperative bridge of common development between the two sides.
Yu pointed out that China-Latin America Infrastructure Cooperation Forum, as the sub-forum of China-Latin America Forum, marks the first professional forum between China and Latin American countries to carry out cooperation in the infrastructure field and an important platform to push both sides to carry out practical cooperation in the infrastructure filed. Infrastructure investment and construction is the most promising field in the China-Latin America trade and economic cooperation. Giving full play to the role of the platform is of great significance to promoting the China-Latin trade and economic cooperation to improve quality and upgrade, pushing for economic development of all countries, reducing poverty and promoting balanced development and regional economic integration.
Yu said that since 2015, we have successfully held two sessions in Macao. It is obvious to see the positive participation of relevant government departments, financial institutions, organizations and enterprises in the infrastructure field of China and Latin America and the achievements made by the two sides in the infrastructure cooperation. According to the statistics of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, in 2015 and 2016, China's non-financial direct investment in Latin America was US$21.46 billion and US$29.84 billion, up 67.1% and 39% respectively year on year. The contract value of newly-signed contractual projects between China and Latin American countries was US$18.16 billion and US$19.12 billion, up 10.3% and 5.3% respectively year on year.
More than 180 representatives of multilateral development organizations such as 16 Latin American and the Caribbean countries and the World Bank, and more than 800 people from Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chinese Ministry of Commerce, China Development Bank, Export-Import Bank of China, China Export and Credit Insurance Corporation and Chinese enterprises participating in the China-Latin America infrastructure cooperation attended the forum.
