The annual Hong Kong – Hunan New Year Meeting was held in Changsha on February 26, 2019. Directors of related Hunan and Hong Kong governmental departments, and representatives of more than 20 Hunan- or Hong Kong-invested enterprises attended.
The meeting, in its third year, is organized by the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Hunan Provincial People’s Government, and the Hong Kong SAR Government Liaison Office in Hunan.
This year, more Hong Kong merchants affirmed Hunan’s improvement in business environment.
“The chamber members commonly agreed that, Changsha’s business environment has improved greatly in recent two years”, said Tang Kam Tim, founder of the Changsha Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong. “On the one hand, Hong Kong businessmen make money in Changsha. On the other hand, Changsha consumers have a strong purchasing power,” he added.
Tang was sanguine about the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area plan, opening of Guangdong-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-speed Railway, establishment of Hong Kong SAR Government Liaison Office in Hunan, and unity of patriotic chambers of commerce. All these would play an important role in attracting Hong Kong businesses to Hunan. “I hope more and more Hong Kong merchants to invest in Hunan,” he said.
The Hunan commercial data indicated Hong Kong investors have confidence in Hunan market. In 2018, Hong Kong businesses invested in 668 projects in Hunan, increasing by 36.6% over the previous year. The contracted capital was 23.65 billion USD, up 27.8%, with 11.6 billion USD utilized, up 14.3%.
“To reassure investors comes before attracting investment. Efforts should be taken to solve their problems related to developing in Hunan,” Vice Governor He Baoxiang said. He remarked that, Hong Kong entrepreneurs’ suggestions present their expectations in Hunan-Hong Kong cooperation, and confidence in Hunan’s open development. Hunan will continue to improve business environment to better serve Hong Kong investors.
