Ministerial Conference of RCEP Held in Siem Reap, Cambodia

On March 2, the 7th ministerial inter-sessional conference was held in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Economic and Trade Ministers or representatives from 16 parties including 10 ASEAN countries, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and India attended the conference. Assistant Minister of Commerce Li Chenggang, on behalf of Minister Zhong Shan, attended the meeting. The National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the General Administration of Customs dispatched representatives to attend the meeting. The Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia attended the opening ceremony and made a keynote speech.


The Ministerial Conference reiterated the consensus reached at the 2nd RCEP Leader’s Meeting on promoting the negotiation to conclude in 2019, and agreed to spare no efforts in reaching the goal. The meeting welcomed trade negotiation committee to gain positive progress in market access and text negotiation. The meeting also realized that it needs further efforts to gain more progress. Therefore, the meeting discussed and approved the work plan of 2019. The ministerial conference also agreed to hold the 8th ministerial inter-sessional conference in August in Beijing.


During the meeting, Li Chenggang also had talks respectively with the leader of the delegations of Thailand, Singapore and Cambodia, as well as the Secretary General of ASEAN.
