Highway:the length of highways extended continuously, with the proportion of village roads further obviously increased. As of the end of 2008, the total length of roads across the country amounted to 3.7302 million kilometers, 146,400 kilometers more than the end of last year. Among them, national highway reached 155,300 kilometers, provincial highway 263,200 kilometers, country road 512,300 kilometers, township road 1.011 million kilometers, accommodation road 67,200 kilometers, and village road 1.7210 million kilometers, 18,200 kilometers more, 8000 kilometers more, 2100 kilometers less, 12,700 kilometers, 10,100 kilometers more and 99,500 kilometers more than the end of 2007 respectively.
Railway:in 2008, China railways originated 1.46193 billion passengers, 144.89 million more than last year, up by 11.0%. Among them, the national rail originated 1.44452 billion passengers, up by 11.0%; non-holding joint venture railway 12.67 million passengers, up by 12.7%; local railway 4.74 million passengers, up by 5.1%. The national railway passenger turnover stood at 777.860 billion passenger-kilometers, 56.135 billion passenger-kilometers more than last year, up by 7.8%. Among them, the national rail amounted to 773.915 billion passenger-kilometers, up by 7.8%; non-holding joint venture railway 3.360 billion passenger-kilometers, up by 12.0%.
Port: in 2008, the number of ports reached 413 across the country. Coastal ports with annual throughput more than 10 million tons amounted to 36, and 87 inland ports with annual throughput more than 2 million tons.
The ports of the country had 31050 quay berths for production use, among which quay berths at 10,000-ton level or above amounted to 1416. The coastal ports of the country had 5119 quay berths for production use, among which quay berths at 10,000-level ton level or above reached 1157; inland ports had 25931 quay berths for production use, among which quay berths at 10,000-ton level or above amounted to 259.
Civil Aviation:in 2008, the airports of the country totally completed the passenger throughput of 405.762 million person-times, up by 4.70% of last year. Among them, domestic airline completed 367.983 million person-times, up by 5.36% of last year; international service 37.780 million person-times, down by 4.42% of last year. The completion of cargo throughput amounted to 8.834 million tons, up by 2.61% of last year. Sorties of taking off and landing stood at 4.226 million, up by 7.2% of last year.
Telephone:in 2008, the net increase of telephone subscribers across the country amounted to 69.092 million, with the total reaching 982.034 million. The proportion of mobile phone users in the total reached 65.3%, with the balance of the mobile phone users and fixed telephone subscribers exceeded 300 million.
Internet: in 2008, the net increase of Internet viewers across the country was 88 million, reaching 298 million, surpassing the US and ranking the first. Among them, the net increase of Internet viewers of broad brand was 110 million, reaching 270 million, accounting for 90.6% of the total; the net increase of Internet viewers of cell phones was 67.20 million, reaching 117.60 million; the net increase of rural Internet viewers was 31.90 million, reaching 84.60 million. Internet penetration reached 22.6%, surpassing the global average level (21.9%).
